Advanced Polymers and Materials Characterization Laboratory
The Advanced Polymers and Materials Characterization Laboratory is part of the Innovation in Materials and Molecular Engineering Biomaterials for Regenerative Therapies research group (IMEM-BRT).
Its activity focuses on the development, analysis and characterization of polymeric materials and hybrid materials, i.e. combinations of materials polymers with other types of materials, such as ceramics and metals, and natural compounds.
Some of the most relevant fields in which we work are: the design of conductive plastic materials, hydrogels, biosustainable and biodegradable polymers (thermoplastics, thermosets, elastomers and composites).
Our activity has biomedical applications (sensors, drug release systems or platforms for tissue engineering) and technological applications (solid and semi-solid electrolytes for fuel cells, batteries , organic capacitors/supercapacitors, polymeric membranes, and the use of bioceramic compounds as catalysts, hydroxyapatite among others). Therefore, in our characterization laboratories, different types of analysis can be carried out for the complete identification of the chemical structures and main properties of these materials.
In addition, the Group has extensive experience and solid technology transfer with companies (more than 10 patents, some of them licensed), which attest to its expertise in the field of polymers and advanced materials. You can consult all its activity here: https://imem.upc.edu/en
