IRI Mechatronics Workshop
The workshop provides support in the design, construction and maintenance of electrical, electronic and mechanical devices and prototypes for the research projects carried out at the IRI and other external entities. The workshop's current rapid prototyping equipment includes a laser cutter for organic materials (CO2), a laser cutter for metallic materials (fiber), several 3D printers and an electronic design workbench. The aim of this workshop is the construction of prototypes, design of parts, maintenance and support in mechanical and electronic components in the framework of research and development projects.
Services it offers
Design, testing, and rapid prototyping of mechanical and electronic devices
Project
Challenge: The goal of this project is to convert an outdated machine shop into a rapid prototyping unit. Rapid prototyping technology has evolved dramatically in recent years.
Solution: The scientific-technical equipment proposed is a new 3D printer, a 3D scanner and a laser cutting system. This equipment constitutes the minimum set needed to carry out 3D prototyping: the scanner is needed to capture 3D models of the structures on which the models are to be placed, and the printer and cutting machine are needed to actually build the models designed to achieve the goals. of the research projects of the IRI and of the different institutes and companies with which we collaborate.
